Hellooo Future Friends!

Acquaintances call me Rebecca; friends call me Bex. I attend University of Central Florida in Orlando, and “home” is about 33 minutes away in Lake Mary; however, I was born in Canada and am a dual citizen of there and South Africa. In three weeks I will no longer be a freshman, so I am trying to enjoy these last few glory days while I still have them! I am currently a French minor, and every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9-10:15 Madame Walters reminds me of my dependence on the Lord as I stumble my way through verb conjugations.

One day I would like to be vegetarian, vegan even, but while working in a restaurant where over 15,000 pounds of meat is smoked per week and rated Orlando’s number one in casual dining, I know that will not happen for a while.

I love food and my latest obsession is jalepenos. While at the dentist I was asked whether I drink coffee, tea, or soda. I said yes. I love the rich scent of black coffee, and the sweet aroma of Rooibos tea. I love to go on adventures and I love outdoor activities--I’m really hoping to do a backpacking trip in May this summer before we head out! I love trying new things and I love to travel. I love to sing. I love photography and going barefoot. I love to love people--something the Lord has been teaching me how to do over the course of this past year.

I have never been on a mission trip outside the country before--much less a long-term one. I have, however, experienced the brokenness that poverty can bring while I was in South Africa. I always knew I would like to do a mission trip like this ‘one day’--little did I know the Lord would completely rock my world in the past few months and send me to India this summer.

This past year has been a year of adjustment, and I have daily been reminded of my need for Jesus. Committing to this trip was an adventure in itself for me, and raising the funds for it has really been a nerve-racking experience. However, my friend prayed something a couple months ago and it has really put my mind to rest: God is not poor. If He wants me on this trip then that is where I’ll be.
